MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Update: Dr. Mohsin Syed is now locked up at the Midland County Jail. He turned himself in before a 7:00 p.m. deadline.
The trial for Midland doctor, Mohsin Syed, started Monday after he was accused of sexually assaulting patients.
Syed was a doctor at Medical Spa of Midland when he was indicted on two charges of sexual assault. He had been licensed in the State of Texas to practice medicine since 1997.
He has been found guilty of sexual assault after a 10-minute deliberation.
The jury found Syed guilty of sexually assaulting one of his patients, but entered a judicial confession where he plead guilty and confessed to assaulting two other patients. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Syed must serve at least one half of his sentence before he has any possibility of parole.
The prosecuters in this case were Midland County District Attorneys Jennifer Lively and Bonita Tribble. Midland attorney Ian Cantacuzene and the Houston law firm of attorney Dan Cogdell represented Syed. Judge Elizabeth Byer Leonard presided over the trial, which was held in the 238th District Court.
Last year Syed was indicted on charges of sexually assaulting five patients. Two of these cases will be dropped with the approval of the two other accusers. Syed also waived his right to appeal the verdict.
He will spend the night at home wearing an ankle monitor until tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. when he will turn himself in.
