Midland High head baseball coach announces retirement

Midland High head baseball coach Barry Russell confirmed to us that he is officially retiring. Russell leaves the Bulldogs after 22 seasons as head coach.

Russel began coaching at MHS in 1996 and has an overall record of 736-356-2. Midland High won the State Championship in 2001, was a State Semi-finalist in 2006, and was in the Regional Semi-Finals seven times. The Bulldog baseball program has been district champs 11 times and district runner-ups 8 times. Russel has had 80 players go on to play at the collegiate or professional level.

Russel is currently serving as President of the Texas High School Baseball Coaching Association. He is not done with baseball yet, as he plans to be the Director of Baseball for D-BAT Permian Basin.
