ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

The West Texas VA Health Care System will shower 18 women Veterans and their families with new baby essentials Tuesday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the VA Permian Basin Community Based Outpatient Clinic, as part of the first ever Nationwide Baby Shower for Veterans.

More than 2,400 new Veteran parents and new Veteran parents-to-be will be recognized at these events across the country.

“West Texas VA offers comprehensive primary care, prenatal and preconception care, infertility services, maternity care services and the first 7 days of newborn care,” said Cynthia Schaffner, women Veterans program manager. Many women Veterans are unaware of these VA services – we need them to know that this is not their grandfathers’ VA!”

Women make up approximately 10% of the Veteran population in the United States, and nearly half of our nation’s 2 million women Veterans are of reproductive age.

To learn more about services available to women Veterans visit www.WomensHealth.va.gov/ or contact Cynthia Schaffner at 432.263.7361, extension 7175.
