ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

A group of veterans are rucking across America to raise awareness for veteran suicide.

The veterans started their journey in Cornado, San Diego on March 10 and have walked 22 miles each day. Approximately 1,025 miles have been walked so far. They plan to end their journey at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Three to four veterans make up the core group, though they often pick up temporary members on their way across the country.

The group hopes to bring awareness to veterans struggling to transition from army to civilian life. 22 veterans a day commit suicide in the United States, and those rucking across the country believe that this number is unacceptable.

The veterans started today at the Odessa Veteran’s Affairs office before visiting the Chris Kyle memorial. Tomorrow they plan to be in Big Spring.
