ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa and Midland police departments Honor Guards prepared to leave for Washington D.C. on Friday afternoon.

They all met at the Friendship Marker in Northeast Odessa before heading out to celebrate National Police Week in the nation's capital on May 13.

National Police Week starts on May 13 and runs through the 19. It's a week set aside to recognize the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty.

During that week, people are encouraged to replace their porch lights with blue bulbs.

Members of the Ector and Midland police departments and sheriff's offices along with DPS and Lubbock police will join on May 18 to honor Texas officers at the Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
