ODESSA, TX (KWES) - ECISD hosted its Special Education Field Day at Permian High School on Friday.
The event started at 9 a.m. and every special education department from Ector county's elementary schools was invited.
The event's theme was Star Wars and featured dozens of Jedi-themed games and activities.
Hundreds of students rotated from activity to activity while interacting with a mix of ECISD staff and Permian high students who were facilitating each activity.
Several parents including Dion Leblanc, who is a father to two children with special needs, also attended today's event.
"I'm really impressed with everything they've done here, there are a lot of activities, and they really went all out for these kids," says Leblanc.
Organizers from today's event like Dr. Tracy Canter explain what she hopes an event of this nature means to the community.
"Most times these kids are not able to participate in events, so that's what our goal was to make sure we had an opportunity for our kids to use their disabilities as abilities," says Canter.
Today's event was reset and re held in the afternoon for middle and high school special need students in the afternoon.
