MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Officials in Midland want to get tractor trailers off the city's streets.

During a City Council Workshop, officials talked about adjusting their "truck routes" ordinance to ban non-local big rigs from inside the city limits.

Councilman J.Ross Lacy says its a measure that needs to be taken to protect city roads.

"We are seeing these trucks coming through our city and destroying the infrastructure that the taxpayers of Midland are paying to fix, and that's completely unacceptable." Lacy continues "that's why we need to take very strict actions so we can get the lifespan that we need to get out of these roads."

The amended ordinance will still need approval from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Though, officials hope to have the changes completed within 60 days.
