AUSTIN, TX (KWES) - The Texas Department of Transportation launched its annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign Tuesday in Austin.

The campaign teaches people about the dangers of not wearing their seat belt when riding in a vehicle.

This year's event used the backdrop of 929 pairs of shoes, each representing a Texan whose life was lost from lack of seat belt usage.

The event featured multiple speakers, including David and Wendy Mills from Spring, Texas who lost their daughter Kailee last year. Kailee was not wearing her seat belt when she was killed in a car crash on her way to a Halloween party with friends.

TxDOT hopes that raising awareness about the dangers of driving without a seat belt will reduce the number of seat belt-related deaths.
