ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa High softball team swept the series in the bi-district round advancing to the area round for the second year in a row. This year's Lady Bronchos team is younger than past squads, but they believe their energy, toughness, and team chemistry will carry them throughout the playoffs.
"We stayed so live in the dugout out whether we were down or we were up. The momentum shifts a lot so for us to keep our energy in the dugout and when we're batting or on the field we stay positive and stay talking through the errors, through the bad pitches, the walks. We stay positive for ourselves and that's a key for us right now," said Sierra Camacho.
"We've learned how to work with each other and we're all growing together," said Kaylean Ayala.
Last year, Odessa advanced to the area round but came up short, so this year this young OHS squad is using that as motivation to get further than they have in the past.
"It gives us a boost. We were telling the new comers that we want to make a name for ourselves and we want to go further. As far as we can and just keep working," said Skylar Herrera.
"We're young and we're still working. We have a lot of good people and we have a lot to prove," said Ayala.
Their team chemistry on and off the field has made them a special group.
"We're really young, but we don't let that affect us. We go out there and play the game we love to play and age is just a number to us," said Camacho.
"We're like family. We all get connected and we talk to each other as family. We're not just teammates," said Kyra Jaquez.
The Lady Bronchos will take on Mansfield High in the area round. The first game of the three game series is on Thursday in Abilene at 6 pm.
