Big Bend National Park closing backpacking sites due to fire danger

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TX (KWES) - Big Bend National Park is closing 11 backpacking sites in the Chisos Mountains due to high fire danger.

Starting on Tuesday, the Juniper Flats, Boulder Meadows and Pinnacles campsites will be closed until further notice.

The hiking trails will remain open at this time.

The park has a has a charcoal ban and wood fires are not allowed. There is also a permanent smoking ban on the Chisos trails and the Chisos campgrounds.
