ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The new Ector Middle School program will move forward without the partnership between Ector County Independent School District and Texas Tech University.
We're told that Texas Tech's legal team needs more time to review the contract, which is due by midnight April 30.
Previously, ECISD had been told by the Texas Education Agency that a Memorandum of Understanding could be submitted in place of a fully executed contract between the parties. However, upon review TEA said it would need a completed contract to be consistent with requirements the agency is enforcing with other school districts.
"I am disappointed this arrangement did not work out," said ECISD Superintendent of Schools Tom Crowe.
Robert Bleisch, a Texas Tech lecturer/professor, has agreed to begin this academy structure on his own through a 501 C(3) organization he is in the process of forming.
"I am encouraged that the architect of the program, Robert Bleisch, is determined to see this succeed and will continue to be the transformational leader for the Ector Middle School College Prep Success Academy," said Crowe.
