ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Three gymnastics teams from the Basin will be heading to the state championships on Friday. Including Permian boy's gymnastics, who punched their ticket to state by winning the regional meet. A huge part of that win was from their gymnasts taking spots one and two in the boys all-around competition.
At the region three championships, less than a point separated the all-around champion from the runner-up, or you could say less than a point distinguished Brandon Dominguez from his younger brother Ryan Dominguez.
The two brothers have competed together at Permian for the past few years.
"At first it was a bit a competitive, but we soon learned it was more about a team thing. But I mean it's a good motivator," said Brandon Dominguez.
According to Coach Soto, the Dominguez duo has worked out the whole teammate and competitor dynamic pretty well.
"You know Brandon is ready to help out when he can and Ryan is ready to push everyone so together their just a good combination," said Chris Soto, head Permian gymnastics Coach.
They say at the gym it's all work but at home, it's all play.
"We kinda just leave it all in the gym it's stressful. We just play fortnite at home yes ma'am that's the best bonding experience out there," said
And no matter what they're up to, they are usually side by side.
"Like 24/7 just constantly together," said Brandon.
But because Brandon is a senior, they know these days are coming to a close.
"I'm gonna miss everything about this especially not having my brother by my side, it's gonna be weird next year. Yeah I've been thinking about it a lot but we're just gonna try to cherish these next few days," said Brandon and Ryan.
The Dominguez brothers, along with the rest of the Permian boys gymnastics team. The Permian girls team and Odessa high boys team will all be heading to state at the end of the week. The meet will start on Friday in Rockwall.
