MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - As part of the Arlen Edgar Distinguished Lecture Series, Robbie Rice Gries will speak at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum.
Gries, an author, a geologist and president of Priority Oil and Gas, LLC., the first female president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and current president-elect of the Geological Society of America will give her lecture titled, "Dare to Be Different: Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology" on Tuesday, April 24, beginning at 7 p.m.
Gries' book, "Anomalies: Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology: 1917-2017" explores the history of women working in petroleum geology – from the first woman hired as a geologist in 1917, to modern-day women who are present "from the wellsite to the boardroom." Their journey was not an easy one – women working in the industry have had to overcome social and political challenges along the way.
Admission to the event is free, but seating is limited. Reservations may be made online or by calling the Petroleum Museum at (432) 683-4403.
The Arlen Edgar Distinguished Lecture Series is made possible by the Abell-Hanger Foundation.
