ODESSA, TX (KWES) - West Texas students are getting the chance to learn first-hand about electricity safety.

As part of a new program Oncor is doing this year, they're touring around West Texas to show elementary kids electricity do's and don'ts.

From a simulated arching demonstrations on power lines, to showing kids how to put a storm safety kit together. Oncor says they're looking at ways to revamp how to educate children with this program.

"We want to emphasize with families that accidents are preventable," Grant Cruise with Oncor.  we think with that age group, electrical safety should be given the same priority as lets say swimming safety or fire safety."

Oncor will be at Odessa schools this week and will be touring Big Spring next week.
