MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - High winds and dry ground is a dangerous combination that can lead fires to ignite.
The Midland County Volunteer Fire Department says they are aren't taking any chances the next two days.
"When we have bad fire weather, like we are going to be having tonight and tomorrow we have volunteers that spend the night at the station," said Mat McClure with the Midland County Volunteer Fire Department.
The department has about 20 volunteers who are going to great lengths to make sure they are ready to go in case disaster strikes.
"Probably about six will spend the night here tonight," said McClure.
MCVFD, has about seven apparatuses, four made for brush fires.
The chief also wants to make sure they are in tip-top shape.
"We come in and make sure all the trucks are in tip-top shape so when the fire does break out we can get on the fire scene quick," said McClure.
On Saturday, the department will be at Firehouse Subs on Highway 191 and Loop 250, where sales proceeds will go back to the department.
