Runners participating in the Lubbock Mayor's Marathon will be hitting the pavement on Loop 289 on Sunday, April 22.
The marathon is scheduled to take place on the Loop 289 outer main lanes and requires the road to be closed.
“Local law enforcement will begin closing access to the main lanes at 5:45 a.m. on April 22,” said Jeremy Dearing, Texas Department of Transportation, Lubbock District transportation engineer. “We anticipate having a complete closure of the outer main lanes for several hours, but as participants progress around the Loop and an area is cleared of runners and aid stations, the lanes will reopen to traffic. All lanes are scheduled to reopen and traffic restored by 2 p.m.”
Drivers will still to have access to the inner Loop lanes and most of Loop 289 frontage road, but TxDot has two detours planned.
Commercial vehicles following the Loop 289 hazardous cargo route will need to follow the posted detours.
