MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Two Midland Police Chevy Tahoes crashed while pursuing Arnoldo Vargas, 37, for failing to pull over for a traffic stop Thursday, April 5, 2018.

According to Midland Police, the first crash happened around 10:40 a.m. when one officer attempted to proceed through an intersection and collided with a Toyota Highlander.

The lights and sirens of his police vehicle were on however, investigators believe that a vehicle in the right lane of Louisiana obstructed the view of both parties.

Around the same time, a second officer was stopped by a construction trench, puncturing the vehicle’s tires.

No injuries were reported and no charges have been filed related to either wreck and neither police car is expected to be totaled.

The low-speed pursuit continued through Central Midland before Vargas was ultimately arrested.

Both officers are on administrative leave until the results of drug and alcohol screenings are returned.
