Woman abandons her three year old while evading deputies

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Graciela Chapa, wanted for a felony DWI, ran from Ector County Warrant Deputies this morning after abandoning her 3 year old child.

Warrant officers approached her near a residence off Sunset Blvd. for a failure to appear on her DWI with Child Under the Age of 15 in vehicle.

According to the Ector County Sherrif's office, Chapa climbed out of a back window, crawled over a fence and ran on foot with her 3 year old boy before leaving him in a boat about five houses down.

Officers arriving to assist spotted the child standing up in the boat crying.

They immediately took the child out of the boat and cared for him before releasing him to Child Protective Services..

Chapa was later arrested after returning to her home with the additional charges of evading on foot, endangering a child, child endangerment.
