MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Midland County Sheriff's office will soon be installing iris scanners in the booking area of the Midland Detention Center.
The iris scanners are another means of identifying and registering inmates, while also cross-checking their criminal history with other departments.
Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter tells us he is excited about the technology upgrade.
"It's a great piece of equipment," says Sheriff Painter.
He also tells us its the system's extra sense of security and efficiency that drew his attention.
"The iris identification cannot be defeated, if there's something that comes up that doesn't appear right the machine will tell you there's something wrong," Painter said.
Sheriff painter says the new iris scanner system will cost $10,000 and should be up and running by the end of April.
