ODESSA, TX (KWES) - After recognizing the need to help a local boy and others in the area find matches for bone marrow transplants, one group is looking to get the word out there.
Guardians of the children held a bone marrow registry for adults ages 18 to 44 to sign up on March 24 at the Ector County Coliseum.
The goal was to get people to learn more about being a donor for those who may need it.
The group has also been helping a local boy from Kermit, Alex Torres, who the family says needs platelet donations.
"Anybody that can help or is willing to go out their way to help a total stranger or someone they know, to me they are outstanding. They're making the world a better place for our kids," Shylla Turner, family friend of Alex Torres, said.
Everyone who came out was swabbed so they could be tested.
