ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Ector County is being considered as a location for a 50 million solar panel plant, surprisingly the focus isn't so much on job growth.
The project would only bring in about 100 construction jobs for 18 months when building the plant.
The location will be 5,000 acres in the western Ector County area.
It's the investment of the equipment and land value the county is after.
"A minimum of 50 Megawatts would be a $50 million capital investment which is a large amount of money. They are talking if everything falls together like it should, and I hope it does that it could be even larger up to 200 million dollars," said Wesley Burnett, Director of Economic Development for the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.
Before they are ready to move in, there are other counties that Ector county is up against.
The other locations have not been announced, but could be other places in Texas.
174 Global Power, is asking for a 10-year tax abatement.
"My view, is if we do nothing, we get nothing, so to give them an abatement we are still going to get the current value plus any increased value from the construction be on," said Shelton.
After the 10 years pass then the county would be able to tax on the improvements of the land and the equipment.
