MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Washington Elementary students joined efforts on Wednesday to make the City of Midland a little greener.

The fourth-graders spent their morning planting trees at Washington Park as part of the Keep Midland Beautiful project, which is one of the largest tree-planting initiatives.

The project has been a success in part due to the funding, supplies and irrigation provided by Parsley Energy.

"It's overwhelming, it really is gratifying as an engineer seeing these kids from Washington STEM come out and be involved, it could not make me happier," Larry Parnell, Parsley Energy Senior Vice President said.

The kids planted 25 trees that are able to establish themselves in the dry climate without permanent irrigation.
