HOBBS, NM (KWES) - According to Hobbs Fire Department, they have purchased new gear to improve its ability to respond and care for patients during active threats.
Currently, each ambulance has three sets of gear each but the goal is to outfit each and every department member with their own set of gear.
EMS Coordinator Michael Prudencio said, "These are something we didn't have before, and hopefully, never have to use. However, it is an important gain for the community. The cost was too hard to pass up, allowing us to purchase a higher number of vests and helmets. The vests have EMS equipment as where that of other companies did not have any EMS equipment."
The purchase was made using the Fire Protection Fund and training on the new equipment is being conducted by the Hobbs Police Department.
HFD Chief Manny Gomez stated, "Continuous innovation and planning is critical for effective emergency response in every community. The Hobbs Fire Department's goal is to always be at the forefront of such efforts and provide the community with effective execution and accordingly, a peace of mind. Achieving this goal requires this type of innovation, forward thinking, and training from staff. I commend both them and the Hobbs Police Department on their initiative and continued efforts to improve and execute successful training."
