ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Odessa Fire Rescue now has five more firefighters and one inspector. The six were pinned in a ceremony at the fire station on Friday morning.
They'll begin their work immediately, Odessa Fire Rescue works with Ector County ISD and Odessa College to give students interested in their program a head start into the career.
"OC has a good feeder program," OFR Chief John Alvarez said. "They work in conjunction with ECISD and what happens is that in their jr year any of those students can get into the fire program. and they'll start their jr year. and when they complete their sr year they'll be ready to go and test to become an EMT and firefighter, because you have to be age 18 to test for EMT certification, but that's been a great-successful program for us because its a good feeder program to get employees to come in from Odessa College"
Out of 40 applicants, only 12 completed the test and that number was narrowed down to six who passed the agility test.
