MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A Greenwood volunteer firefighter is behind bars after an investigation concluded he had been setting buildings on fire.

Several agencies continued the investigation over several months and finally arrested Alan Alton Self, 24.

Self has admitted to starting the fires at the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Station, and 18-wheeler water truck and trailer home as well as Valley View Baptist Church.

Self said on several occasions small pocket cigarette lighter to light rags or other items found at the scenes to set the fires. He then left the scenes without attempting to put out the fires, causing damage to the buildings and other items.

In total, he is responsible for nine fires. He is now facing felony charges.

Self said he was bored and wanted to fight fires. Self has no affiliation with the Northeast Midland County VFD.
