MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A couple of suspicious fires have sparked an investigation in Midland County.

The Midland County Fire Marshal says The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department and a building located on the property of the Valley View Church both caught fire on March 8.

The buildings are about 12 miles away from one another.

With severe burn damage, both buildings have been declared a total loss.

The cause of the fires remains under investigation by the Midland County Fire Marshal as well as the state's fire marshal.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office says there are similarities in the incidents but have yet to declare or rule out arson, or whether they are officially connected.
