ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - An East Texas man is dead and another person is recovering following a crash in Ector County on Friday night.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. on State Highway 302, about 8 miles west of Odessa.
Authorities tell us a 2017 Ford pickup truck and an 18-wheeler were both headed east on State Highway 302.
That's when, authorities said, the pickup truck hit the 18-wheeler from behind.
According to the report, the pickup truck then drove across the westbound lanes of the highway and into an open field where the vehicle came to rest.
DPS Troopers said the two people inside the pickup truck were ejected during the crash.
One of those people, Austin Alexander, 21, of Gladewater, Texas, was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where he later died.
The driver of the pickup truck, Cody Serviss, 20, of Odessa, was also take to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the 18-wheeler wasn't injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
