RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - Police say a speed enforcement van parked on a neighborhood street in Rio Rancho was destroyed by a fire Wednesday night.
Rio Rancho police say the fire is under investigation, and investigators are determining if the fire was intentionally set.
Police say no one was injured from the blaze, but the van was a total loss. The van was one of eight used to monitor traffic in the city.
Police say the vans use a radar type system to help enforce speed limits, and the vehicles are a part of the Safe Traffic Operations Program.
Vandals targeted a speed enforcement van in April, spray-painting vulgar images and messages on it.
Police say the department will continue speed enforcement practices in the area, and the vehicle will eventually be replaced.
