(CNN) - A man in Houston is starting the New Year with the hope of inspiring people.

Edward Pollard posted a video on Facebook of him presenting his favorite waiter with a new car the day after Christmas.

Pollard wrote that this man serves him frequently at the restaurant across from his office.

He described him as the kind of person who can "instantly put a smile on your face."

When Pollard leaves work, he often sees the gentleman sitting at the bus stop, so he decided to get his extra car detailed like new and gift it to the waiter.

Now he is sharing the story and hoping to inspire people to do simple things every day as this New Year unfolds.
