MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Visiting Angels of West Texas Group celebrated our veterans on Friday.

Veterans were pinned and honored for their service in the armed forces.

They gathered at the Centennial Library in Midland for lunch and a pinning ceremony.

One veteran described how it feels to be recognized.

"I feel honored to have been able to serve in the armed forces and help protect the freedom of our country. Really, I mean we're honoring Veterans, but the real heroes are the ones that never came home. They're the real heroes," said Private First Class, Albert Stanford.

Stanford served in the war in Korea.

He's very humble.

He told us he feels like he doesn't deserve any credit because he believes veterans in World War II are the real heroes.
