MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Midland County District Attorney is warning residents after their third-party payment system was hacked.

According to a press release, information entered into a third-party payment system could have been compromised back on Sept. 6 due to a security breach.

Since the forensic investigation was not conducted by the vendor, Midland County isn't aware of the extent, if any, of the information exposed. They are, however, not ruling out that possibility at this time.

"Therefore, in an abundance of caution and concern for the citizens of Midland, we are urging citizens to please verify any call or email you may receive regarding money owed to Midland County."

If you do get a call, remember Midland County does not accept credit card, gift card or cash payments. Do not give out your information over the phone to anyone claiming to be collecting money on behalf of Midland County.

The ability to pay fine and fees for Justice Courts 1, 2, 3, and 4 online and with a credit card were not affected by this breach.
