MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The City of Midland's search for a new police chief might soon come to an end.

On Wednesday, the Midland city council got to meet the last two candidates vying for the chief spot. Steve Henry and Glen Fowler both have West Texas ties and a full resume.

Henry was born in Monahans and Fowler spent 19 years with the Lubbock Police Department.

"It's important for us to have good first-line supervisors who are looking for small problems in the agency and are looking to correct those before they become big problems," said Fowler. "I think when you do those kinds of things the community is much more likely to support you."

"Our best interest is our community," said Henry. "So the thing that serves us best is to make an environment where people feel safe when they go to bed at night and have safe place to raise their children and a safe place to work. That's our number one mission, that's all we want and we'll do whatever it takes to get there."

The city council was able to fill out cards with their impressions of the candidates. The decision will be made by the city manager.
