ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A community effort on Tuesday night showed and inspired Ector County middle school students that staying in school is actually really cool.
The SOAR for Success Community Campaign put on the block party kicking off their parent involvement initiative called Push.
Students and representatives from Odessa College and from U.T.P.B. were there to talk to middle schoolers about the various programs their schools had to offer.
Organizers say educational events like this will hopefully encourage students to aspire for higher education.
"We were particularly interested in having an educational footprint here so kids could see what their opportunities would be if they stayed in school that they could go on to Odessa College or U.T.P.B. and stay right here in Odessa and further their education and become a productive part in Odessa," said Lorraine Perryman, Chair of the SOAR for Success at Ector Middle School.
A number of Ector County students were awarded scholarships at the event.
