ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Ector County ISD has reached out to the community to let people know a report about a gun on the Nimitz Middle School campus turned out to be false.

The district has released the following statement:

“We want to let you know, this morning administrators at Nimitz Middle School received a report that a student on campus might have a gun. Our campus officer found the student named in the report, searched his backpack and locker and found nothing. During that time other students began posting comments to social media and the school began to receive phone calls from worried parents. We want to reassure parents and our community we take all reports like this seriously, and we move quickly and decisively to make sure our students and staff are safe. We want to thank those who reported it to the school, and we are glad to say this turned out to be a false report.”
