ALPINE, TX (KWES) - The man accused of killing Sul Ross Student Zuzu Verk was supposed to be in court on Friday but the hearing was called off for Robert Fabian and rescheduled.
Fabian's attorney is asking for a change of venue at least 200 miles from Brewster County. The continuation for that hearing hasn't been given a new date yet.
Another suspect in Zuzu's case did make a court appearance. Chris Estrada pleaded not guilty to charges involving hiding Zuzu's body.
Estrada is a friend of Robert Fabian, Zuzu's on and off again boyfriend.
"I don't have any comment," said Estrada after we asked about his and Fabian's innocence.
The trial date for Estrada's tampering charge is set for May 21, 2018.
We asked Estrada's attorney, Jim Darnell, if he plans to request a change of venue.
"I don't know," Darnell said.
Estrada also pled not guilty to DWI and evading charges from January, 2 weeks before Zuzu's remains were found.
A hearing was set for Dec. 15 on those charges. At that time, he can either take a plea deal or a trial date will be set.
