City of Odessa supervisor admits to stealing city equipment to sell on EBay for profit

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

The Odessa Police Department has arrested a City of Odessa employee accused of stealing equipment from the city.

Michael Beard Jr., 39, is charged with theft by a public servant.

We're told that a theft report was made on Thursday.

The victim told police that 5 GPS units had been stolen and sold on EBay by a known person.

Beard, who is a supervisor for Utilities, was the known person.

We're told the value of the equipment was valued between $30,000 and $150,000.

Beard was interviewed on Friday and he admitted to stealing the electronic units and selling them for a profit on EBay.

Beard was arrested and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center

     According to police, a black Ford F-150, being operated by Marcelo Olivas, 17, was traveling on private property when a 20-month-old boy ran out in front of the F-150 and was struck by it.
