POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A 63-year-old man died in a head-on collision involving an 18-wheeler that occurred near Chester on U.S. Highway 287 Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to and investigated the wreck, which occurred about three-and-a-half miles east of Chester, at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The preliminary crash report shows that Bryan Alfred, of Chester, was driving a 2004 Ford pickup east on Highway 287 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center of the road and drove into the westbound lane. Alfred’s pickup struck a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer rig driven by Steven Coleman, 43, of Jefferson, on the front left side, the press release stated.

Polk County Justice of the Peace Jamie Jones pronounced Alfred dead at the scene of the wreck at 4:17 p.m.
Coleman was not injured in the wreck.

The crash is still under investigation.
