Boise's employment program for homeless showing success

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Officials in Idaho's capitol city say they're happy with a program offering employment with the Boise Parks and Recreation Department to homeless residents and have decided to expand it.

The Idaho Statesman reported (http://bit.ly/2wRo54C ) Friday that the program is a partnership between the city of Boise and Interfaith Sanctuary, a homeless shelter, and is model off of similar initiative in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Parks and Recreation Crew Chief Andrea Wurtz says the program's 10 workers have been fantastic by showing up on time, being positive and always ready to go. According to the Jodi Peterson, the development director for the shelter, the jobs have improved to the workers' mental or emotional state, and for some it's even led to other jobs and a path toward permanent housing.
