ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

A show of remembrance.

“Even though one of the most horrible things was done to America, we stood strong,” said Odessa resident, Raquel Lopez.

A chance to thank those who do the jobs to keep us safe.

“It’s important that our youth, our cub scouts, our girl scouts and all the boys and girls, they remember everyone that sacrificed, everyone that died on that day,” said Lopez.

On Thursday, the annual American Tribute at Memorial Gardens did just that.

“It bonds us all together as Americans, which is what we should do,” said Lopez.

For 13 years, Raquel Lopez walked along with the community planting flags around the park.

“Emotional every year. Every year it gets me,” said Lopez.

3,000 of them, whispering in the wind.

“We’re the greatest nation in the world and we should bond, this is how we do it,” said Lopez.

The events of September 11 may have happened hundreds of miles away. A tribute like this crosses state lines.

“Stand strong to remember we’re American and to appreciate people out there that sacrifice for us everyday,” said Lopez.
