Restaurant Report: Two Midland restaurants make low performer list

MIDLAND-ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

The week of August 14th through August 18th was a great one for Odessa restaurants. They had no low performers and several restaurants with perfect scores. However, Midland had a couple of places who didn’t meet the bar.

Ard’s Country Store Deli at 5100 SCR 1200 in Midland was cited for the following:

- Food containers not dated/labeled
- Uncovered food containers
- No soap/paper towels at hand wash sink
- No thermometers in reach-in freezer
- Microwave oven was dirty
- Floor behind fryer/grill was dirty

This resulted in the health inspector deducting 17 points from Ard’s Country Store Deli.

Monterrey Cocina Mexicana at 3323 N. Midland Dr. was cited for the following:

- No labels on flour & rice bins
- Uncovered pot of beans in cooler
- Salsa containers covered with paper towels
- Uncovered flour bin
- Uncovered container of carnitas in cooler
- Uncovered butter cream cups in cooler
- No soap/paper towels at hand wash sink
- Stall trashcans had no lids in ladies restroom
- No thermometer in walk-in cooler
- Microwave was dirty
- Tile floor in kitchen needs to be replaced
- All equipment/bins need to be cleaned/sanitized

This resulted in the health inspector deducting 30 points from Monterrey Cocina Mexicana.

As we mentioned, there were several top performers for the week in Odessa and one in Midland. Here’s a look at Odessa’s top performers:

- Red Oak Kitchen (7260 E. Hwy. 191)
- 5-Star Donuts (4605 Oakwood Dr.)
- La Bodega Quick Stop (3905 N. FM 1936)
- Cork & Pig Tavern (7260 E. Hwy. 191)
- Stars #2 (1015 E. 8th St.)
- Cesarito’s Mexican Food (1001 W. 10th St.)

Here’s a look at Midland’s top performer:

    The Big Spring Police Department and Howard County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Department of Public Safety and Howard County District Attorney’s Office, have just completed an operation targeting online sexual predators.  During this operation, undercover investigative personnel posted fictitious ads or profiles on various social media platforms, and websites posing as prostitutes or those soliciting prostitutes.
