MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - 54 foster children will get to sleep in brand new mattresses at night, all thanks to Ashley Homestore in Midland.
The furniture store wanted to give back to the community and chose the High Sky Children's Ranch this time around. Ashley Homestore donated 54 mattresses, that's the amount of beds they have inside the facility. The mattresses are Tempur-Pedic and run at about $2,000 a piece.
"They [the children] come from homes that maybe doesn't have electricity or running water, let alone a mattress," said Jalynn Hogan, Executive Director of High Sky Children's Ranch. "This may be the first time they've had a bed of their own, let alone a very nice mattress. When you have sleep challenges, I know many of us do but our children especially have challenges because they've been taken away from everything they know."
Hogan said it's been about 4 or 5 years since the children last got new mattresses. Bedding was put on the mattresses to surprise the children when they got home from school.
