Texting while driving law to take effect on Friday in Texas

It will be illegal to text and drive in the state of Texas starting on Friday. Many are wondering how an officer will be able to tell if you are texting an driving.

(KWES) - It will be illegal to text and drive in the state of Texas starting on Friday.

Many are wondering how an officer will be able to tell if you are texting an driving.

Police say swerving out of a lane and looking up and looking down are the most common signs a person is texting but they'll have to prove it.

The Midland County District Attorney says if you go to court the officer will have to testify and show dash cam footage.

Phone records will only be pulled in extreme circumstances like an accident resulting in a death or serious injuries.

The law only applies to texting, you can still things like your G.P.S.

an officer still can't search your phone unless you consent to it.
