MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - The Midland County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a scam that is being reported to them.

Authorities said residents of Midland were receiving calls threatening them with arrest if they didn't pay for their warrants over the phone immediately.

We're told the caller would tell the victim to go to Albertson's or HEB and buy blue dot cards or red dot cards and pay off the warrants over the phone.

Authorities said in most cases the phone number of the scammer looks like a local number but the numbers are not where they're calling from.

Sheriff's deputies said the subjects that are calling usually have a foreign accent and are very rude to people they talk to and will not take no for an answer.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office wants to remind residents that under no circumstances will they call residents and ask them to pay warrants over the phone.
