OPD Sgt. David Lara receives 2017 'Top Cop of the Permian Basin' award

Odessa Police Department Sergeant David Lara has received the 2017 "Top Cop of the Permian Basin" award.

(KWES) - Odessa Police Department Sergeant David Lara has received the 2017 "Top Cop of the Permian Basin" award.

The announcement was made during an event on Thursday night.

Sgt. Lara has approximately 20 years of law enforcement experience, 5 years with the Ector County Sheriff's Office and 15 years with Odessa Police.

We're told Sgt. Lara has spent a good portion of his career in the traffic division with Odessa police.

Sgt. Lara has also spent a good portion of his career serving the community in multiple roles. Lara has recently participated in the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Autism Awareness Program and the 9/11 Stair Climb Remembrance. Lara has also participated and volunteered for the last 12 years in the Area Special Olympics both locally and state draft.

Lara has also been selected as the OPD Officer of the Month for April.
