ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

The City of Odessa is letting residents know that they will be changing the way they disinfect their water.

Starting Monday, May 1, residents may notice a bleach or chlorine like smell in the water.

The city says this is nothing to be concerned about.

We're told the process, which will take approximately 60 days, will involve the city using only chlorine to disinfect the water supply instead of the combination of chlorine and ammonia to form Chloramines.

The City of Odessa said the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified of the change in the treatment of water and concurs that it is the best method for ensuring that adequate chlorine residuals are maintained throughout the distribution system.
