Man arrested for DWI after nearly crashing into Odessa officer

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

One man is behind bars on charges following an incident late Friday night in Odessa.

Johnny Johnson, 54, is charged with driving while intoxicated (3rd or more).

We're told while officers were at the intersection of 52nd St. and JBS Parkway, a silver 2014 GMC failed to yield the right of way to a marked OPD patrol unit, forcing the officer to make a hard brake to avoid a collision.

According to the report, a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the driver was identified as Johnson.

The report stated that while officers were talking with Johnson, they could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Johnson was later taken into custody for DWI after failing field sobriety tests.

Authorities said further investigation revealed that Johnson had two prior conviction for DWI out of Ector County and Nueces, Colorado.

Johnson was then taken and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
