LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A Longview man charged with the stabbing deaths of two people in a Longview hospital, will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is competent to stand trial.

Kyron Rayshawn Templeton, now 26, has been jailed in Gregg County since the November 2013 stabbing rampage at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Good Shepherd Medical Hospital in Longview. Nurse Gail Sandidge was killed in the attack, and visitor Harris Teel died from his injuries several days later.  Three other people were injured.

The request for the competency hearing was filed earlier this week in the 124th District Court by Kevin H. Settle, Templeton’s defense attorney, and was granted April 18, by Judge Alfonso Charles. The next step in the case is for an evaluation to be performed by a court-designated medical expert.

Templeton is charged with capital murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and has been held on $2,500,000 in bonds since shortly after the attack.
