ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Community members and Ector County voters filled the room at the Odessa Board of Realtors Wednesday evening as candidates running for contested spots on the board of the Ector County Independent School and Hospital District explained their ideas to voters. One of them was long-time resident and registered voter, Joe Garcia.

“I just wanted to see what some of the different candidates had to say,” said Garcia.

Candidates Delma Abalos running for the seat of Position 2 and Kay Ketzenberger running for the seat of Position 7 talked about some of the changes like they would like to make regarding the school district. As a parent Garcia, wanted to know his children are getting the best education possible.

“I have kids in school and I’m concerned about the overcrowding and how it seems like they’re always practicing to take tests,” said Garcia.

Six candidates for three seats on the county’s hospital district board were in attendance. One of the pressing issues the hospital facing is the recent deficit caused in part by unpaid bills. Garcia and others wanted to know how they planned on dealing with it.

“Even though we have to treat them all at Medical Center, it’s all about money but also about critical care. How do you pay for it and give them all the care,” asked Garcia?

One thing everyone could agree on was the need to be transparent and that’s what Garcia wants to see when it’s time to cast his ballot.

“Be honest. Come from the heart. Say what you mean and mean what you say,” said Garcia.

To do that forums like these help Garcia and others know who has their best interest at heart. If you are a registered voter in Ector County and want to vote on May 6th, here is a list of sites you can cast your ballot.
