MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

We're learning new details on what could have happened moments before a 15-year-old was hit and killed by a car in Midland Tuesday evening.

The girl was a student at Midland Freshman and we're told she often took the bus home, on Tuesday, she didn't. The Midland Police Department (MPD) said it's possible the student just missed the bus because the direction she was walking in was towards her house.

Police said the driver on the closest lane to the girl saw her and slowed down. The teen tried to cross but cars in other lanes did not see her.

MPD said so far, they don't expect any charges to be filed.

Midland ISD released this statement, "The Midland ISD family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. The Midland Freshman students, faculty and staff who knew the student so well require our attention at this time. Crisis counselors are on campus today providing support and will remain there as long as necessary."

Interim Superintendent, Rod Schroder, included a statement, “We extend our deepest sympathy. This family and everyone affected by this tragedy will remain in our thoughts and prayers."

MPD tells us the girl's family was out looking for her at the time of the accident, they found it strange she wasn't home yet. Family was able to identify her at the scene.
