LEONARDTOWN, MD (RNN) – An Army Black Hawk helicopter on a training mission crashed on a golf course in southern Maryland on Monday afternoon, killing one crew member and injuring two others.

The Army has confirmed that one of the three people aboard has died. The other two were taken via medical helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock and Trauma Center in Baltimore and are in serious condition.

Images and videos tweeted from the scene show the twisted remains of the craft.

The helicopter crashed in Leonardtown, MD, on Monday at about 1:50 p.m. The state police sent two of their medical helicopters to the scene.

An eyewitness who works at the pro shop of the Breton Bay Golf and Country Club  in Leonardtown said he saw the helicopter flying low, and then saw it spinning before it went down between the third and fourth holes of the golf course.

The location of the crash is about 60 miles southeast of Washington, DC..

The craft is out of Fort Belvoir, which is located in Fairfax, VA, approximately 40 miles from the crash site.

This is the second military aircraft to crash in Maryland this month. On April 5, an F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training mission in National Harbor, MD, near Joint Base Andrews. The pilot ejected safely from the jet and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
